William Wickham (1761 - 1840)

Born: 1761

William Wickham's family occupied Old Hall in 18th century.

He attended Harrow and Oxford University taking a Law Degree in Geneva, Switzerland in 1786.

He got married in 1788 to a Swiss woman.

He was a British Secret Service master spy during the French Rovolution.

He assisted thousands of fleeing french aristocrats - Cottingley's Scarlet Pimpernel.

Under Secretary of State for Home Affairs in late 1700's.

Chief Secretary of Ireland after the 1798 Rebellion.

Retired in 1807.
