The Rec

The area known by the locals as "The Rec" (short for "recreation") was established to provide a safe playground for children. Over the years, it has been used as a cricket field, football field and general play area away from traffic.

A small area just behind The Hut has been fenced off to keep out dogs and houses a climbing frame and swings.

But the current trend of skateboarding and in-line skating has led to an iniative being penned by local youngsters. A proposed games and skate park has been submitted for consideration by teenagers attending local forum meetings after they complained about the lack of play areas in Cottingley. A debate is currently underway as to whether such a scheme is viable with attention being paid to the possible disruptions it may have on local residents.
